Refractory Products
Ceramic Fiber Boards
Ceramic fiber is a go-to solution throughout many refractory industries. Whether you’re looking for lining and insulation for furnaces, kilns, or industrial ovens, ceramic fiber boards provide an excellent support solution with low thermal conductivity.
Who uses ceramic fiber boards? Almost any refractory industry uses them in some capacity. Steel and aluminum manufacturers may use ceramic fiber boards as backup lining for furnaces. The petrochemical industry uses ceramic fiber boards to insulate high-temperature equipment and pipes.
From incinerators to foundries to the power generation industry, ceramic fiber products, including ceramic fiber boards, handle high temperatures and insulate your equipment to protect it from thermal shock.
All About Ceramic Fiber Boards
Ceramic fiber boards are one of the essential products we carry in our ceramic fiber inventory. At RSI, we have all your needed refractory material supplies, including ceramic fiber modules, fire bricks, refractory textiles, and more.
Ceramic fiber is an excellent material for many heat-based applications. The rigid fiber boards are often used in applications such as backup insulation for cast refractory, linings for glass furnaces, chimney linings, and lab kilns.
At RSI, we carry an array of standard sizes, including boards up to 3.5” thick. The boards can be altered and machined to fit tight spaces. Like ceramic modules, ceramic fiber boards fall into the most insulating class of refractory.
Boards are extremely useful as high-insulating backup behind hard refractory, such as castable and brick linings. While high-strength boards can serve as a working furnace lining, they’re typically best used as support in commercial applications, as the binders can cause the boards to lose strength in a hot-faced lining.
Need a custom size or shape? We can machine boards into many specialized sizes and shapes to fit your application. The board manufacturing process can be used to vacuum-form intricate and detailed shapes with uniform density. Reach out and let us know what you need!
Boards Provide Structure and Support
Our ceramic fiber boards are readily available in an array of standard sizes, including the most common 1” thick, 24” x 48” boards. Choose from high and low density, depending on the needs of your situation. Boards come in thin ¼” thickness up to 3” hefty boards. The boards have excellent chemical stability.
Ceramic fiber boards have similar insulating properties to other ceramic fiber products. However, it is worth noting that the binders in the standard ceramic fiber board insulation can lose some strength at high-temperature applications above 500° F.
Fiber products shrink at high temperatures (rather than melt). So, to determine a fiber board’s temperature tolerance, manufacturers look at the highest temperature the board can tolerate with less than 3% shrinkage.
If you need boards for higher-temperature applications, boards are available in a variety of temperature ratings with options rated up to 2200 °F. Due to their cost and practicality, boards are often best suited as a backup insulation option for hard refractory. Backup boards make the hard refractory lining more insulating and safer.
Ceramic fiber boards offer a combination of thermal insulation, mechanical strength, and ease of installation, making them a versatile choice for many high-temperature industrial applications.
No matter what ceramic fiber refractory products you need, we can help you at RSI. Reach out today to determine which ceramic fiber boards, modules, or other products will be best for your industrial applications. We’ll help you find the right choice for long-term durability and efficient thermal management.
